The True Face of the Republican Party? Or just innocent victims?

So much for all their rhetoric about curtailing vitriolic speech. Their virulence seems to have escalated and i suspect will only worsen over the next two years.

The following is just one example of that evil vituperation (sustained and bitter railing and condemnation) toward their perceived enemies - those G--D--- liberals, who must be stopped at all costs.

Quotes from today's report by the People for the American Way (PFAW.org):

"Glen Beck's latest conspiracy theory target is a 78 year old professor who, 45 years ago, published an article with her husband which suggested that people overwhelming the welfare system could put enough stress on that system that it would force the need for certain reforms to help the poor."

The result?

"City University of New York professor and long time advocate for the poor and working classes, Frances Fox Piven has been receiving repeated death threats via online message boards and has personally received angry and violent emails." (#l.)

Beck has chosen to personally escalate these attacks even after the recent sad political violence in Arizona. Amidst calls to bring an end to incendiary, violence causing speech, Beck is doubling down, and his network and advertisers simply sit back and watch. They must be held accountable for any violence this rhetoric may reap."

"Beck says that Mrs. Piven and her new deceased husband's goal was to 'intentionally collapse our economic system,' and he traces every paranoid fantasy of liberal plots to destroy America and capitalism (the mythical 'voter fraud' by ACORN, health care and financial reform, the Obama presidency itself) directly to what he calls the 'Cloward-Piven Strategy' (Cloward being Mrs. Piven's late husband)."

"In light of the escalation of violent, rage filled comments directed at Piven by presumed Beck fans, groups like the Center for Constitutional Rights have been calling on Fox News to make Beck cease his personal attacks. But Fox refuses."

"According to the NY times: Joel Cheatwood, a senior vice president, said Friday that Mr. Beck would not be ordered to stop talking about Ms Piven on television. He said Mr. Beck had quoted her accurately and had never threatened her personally. The Glen Beck Program, probably above and beyond any other on television, has denounced violence repeatedly."

Mr. Cheatwood, that is simply not true. Here is what we know:

"Byron Williams, the would be assassin of staff of the ACLU and the Tides Foundation in San Francisco, who was stopped by police in a shootout in July 2010, cited Glen Beck as his inspiration, specifically singling out Beck programs from June of that year, in which Williams said Beck had been breaking open some of the most hideous corruption. It was on his Fox News show of June 10 that year, that Beck said, "you're gonna have to shoot them in the head," in reference to Democrats such as then U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who he described as a Marxist 'revolutionary' and 'communist".

Now the cycle is starting to repeat itself right before our very eyes!!

Enough is enough.

So, my friends, my question is simple: Is this the real face of the Republican Party? Or are they just innocent victims of the likes of Glenn Beck, et.al.?

There IS a solution - Stop using ANY religious book to swear in on. Religion DOES NOT belong in politics!

MANY WARS - NO WARS ON WOMEN SAYS THE GOP.

I normally enjoy your articles, but this one bothers me.

I believe this post is heavily biased because you leave out all references to left-wing inspired violence. It is a fact that the lefties are the "self-proclaimed" radicals who specifically endorse violent protests. Just read their books and other pubs from the past 40 years. Their goal is to convert America to a controlled socialist state where just speaking your mind will get you sent to Siberia, or Guantanamo Bay which never got closed, so I think Bush is owed an apology. Now you advocate that very thing as if the conservatives are to blame for all the violence. How dare you try to encourage our government to stifle free speech for conservatives while giving liberals a free ride? Do you have any idea what is coming? We are heading down the road to a country completely controlled by a "politically correct" government because they don't know how to deal with the problems. Making things illegal, especially free speech, has never solved problems.

I disagree with this article completely. Think back a few years. The liberals burned effigies of Bush and marched with manikin's of him hanging by ropes. That's just the start. Try that with Obama and see where you end up. Protesters in the 60's were everywhere, and they sometimes got very violent. Most were liberals. What if their freedom to speak had been stopped? Stopping free speech because someone goes crazy is insane. Do you really want to live in a world where everything you say can put you in jail? Even an innocent conservation between two people overheard by another could be used to imprison them. There have always been retards "inspired" by others to commit crimes because they needed some kind of excuse. The obvious solution is a state controlled media like all socialist countries end up with. That way the party in control only allows people to hear their propaganda. Any deviation from that will get the broadcaster landed in prison. Is that what we want?

Our culture is filled with violent rhetoric. It has been for many years. So why is it now a problem? If you want to be fair, you need to tell the truth: liberals are more violent than conservatives.

Check these links.

"Liberals are assaulting police officers, rioting in the streets, burning our flag, painting swastikas on government buildings and even openly inciting violence...yet the very same news media that routinely smear the Tea Parties as dangerous extremists are oddly silent."

Just search for "liberal violence" on the net. Be fair and honest, please.

I think we should try and eliminate explicit language that might incite violence. The problem is that it cannot be done. There is no way we can do that besides "scripting" everything that is spoken on TV. Heck, some wacko may use this article you wrote as an inspiration to do violence to Glen Beck. I can see it because I am a psychologist. People are complicated and each one is different, so we never know what will trigger violent behavior.

Place the blame where it is due. People who commit crimes have themselves to blame.

-One last fact to pop your bubble:

Of the 4 Presidential assignations, 3 were Republicans and one was a Democrat, and another Republican was shot but survived. So who are the violent people in America? Not Republicans or conservatives. The violent people are just crazy.

Thanx for reading and commenting. As i stated at the beginning these were "quotes" from this particular organization, and how they perceive the likes of The 'Becks' in this world. I do not sympathize with the radical left, nor to i sympathize with the radical right.

The radicals on the left no more represent the Democratic party than do the radicals on the right represent the Republican party.

There is no finger pointing here, except for the Becks of this world who incite violence , assuming Beck is NOT a true representative of the Republican party. He is certainly depicted as representative of that party, by his own admission, as is the tea party movement.

The National conservative examiner is extremely biased against everyone who is not republican, christian, heterosexual, or white. Your comments are somewhat unfounded, but i certainly appreciate the passion this article has invoked in you. Hopefully the country will come to its senses and find some middle ground to move forward. We certainly can not go back to business as usual. I always enjoy your comments and find them quite enlightening. Thanks again. dw

Glenn Beck is not responsible for the idiots that want violence. If you say that the democrats are not responsible for the violent left, than how can you say that Beck is responsible for the same thing? Beck doesn't incite violence, and if you really believe that, you are listening to him through other peoples opinions and not your own. If you really believe what you say, listen to him, or research what he talks about. Most of what he talks about is backed up by their own words, including frances fox piven. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Flv_sCxUek

You want to see violent rhetoric, research and write about the recent code pink and the Koch Brothers ralley.

Get your facts straight before you write an article. Also, he does not represent the tea party. Research Glen Beck and see what he truely believes before you spout 2nd hand information.

Thanks for reading, commenting and your suggestions. Glenn Beck was one of my favorite commentators when he was on CNN. Somehow, he has taken a drastic turn toward the far right, and most of his babbling he now does on Fox network, makes little or no sense. (Except to the right wing). He is truly a bigot, narrow minded and hateful individual. I would suggest that those who follow the staunch dogma of the far right, as you appear to do, are more apt to believe what they are told by their biased heroes than i am. Your arguement regarding "democrats not responsible for the violent left" and Beck representing the GOP are incompatible with the truth of my article. If you had taken the time to think, while reading, instead of simply taking umbrage to anything that might appear negative toward the right wing nuts, you might have noticed the sentence that says these are "quotes from the PFAW", not mine. This is the mentality that keeps the deep divide between the left and the right. Get a grip man. The time for both the radical left, and the radical right, should be a long lost thing of the past. Hateful rhetoric keeps it alive. You can defend Mr. Becks statement "your gonna have to shoot them in the head" as much as you want. It certainly was not a statement of praise, acceptance, or love. But then, the GOP does not know the meaning of those words.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Oddly enough i am still a registered Republican, but that party has disintegrated into a hate spewing, corporate patsy, that has little or no regard for the middle class citizen. We are all entitled to our opinions, and your agreeing with another radical hubber's views does not make them more valid than mine. I try to see the middle ground and look at things in a logical and realistic way. Unfortunately most of the republican party is unable to comprehend this simple concept.
