IS IT POLITICALLY CORRECT FOR ANY GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL TO BE QUOTING FROM THE BIBLE?

THE LUNACY OF QUOTING FOM THE BIBLE
How complete is YOUR brainwashing?
It seems that these days it is imperative, or politically correct, to be able to quote from the bible to prove a point, or justify ones proclivity for hatred, intolerance and just plain stupidity.
Here are just a few "FACTS" to dissuade, or educate those whose misgivings lean toward believing all those inappropriate "quotes" being used by politicians and religious zealots.
- 1. You do know that "God" did not actually write the bible, or any other holy book? It is physically impossible and certainly would not have been done so in "hidden messages", i.e.: "parables" (a short fictitious story that illustrates a moral attitude or a religious principle); "metaphors" (a figure of speech in which a word or phrase literally denoting one kind of object or idea is used in place of another to suggest a likeness or analogy between them): or in such a "pell-mell" (confused haste) fashion.
- 2. The 'holy scriptures' is not a "story book" or "novel" in any fashion, or even "holy" except as declared so by the Roman Catholic Church and Roman Government by decree hundreds of years ago.
- 3. It is a compilation of excerpts copied, or extracted from many, many letters, poems, parables, stories and versions all written by multiple authors and their personal beliefs.
- 4. All written material from the past to present (including yours and mine) are inspired by the individual's intelligence, awareness, imagination and personal beliefs (all of which are gifts from God).
- 5. All the topics of these written words are merely the manifestations of the mind of the person whose hand penned them. "Inspiration" considered to be a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him, or her, to receive and communicate sacred revelation, are motivated by the "needs" of the individual to convey a specific message. And somehow, by invoking God's name as the inspiration for those writings makes it believable. ? Really?
- 6. The commonality of themes of those multiple writings from which the excerpts, or extractions, were taken were (are) based on issues of importance to the times and the conceptualization of what was to be created: (a religious concept). Jesus Christ was a political rebel who openly criticized the government for its practices, which was not much different than today. He was also Jewish and practiced a religion known as Gnosticism. Which was later condemned by the Roman government and its religious creation: the Roman Catholic Church.
- 7. There were actually two scriptural or biblical versions compiled/created at that time: The "holy" and "satanic" versions, both created from all of the writings available at that time. All other writings were discarded and destroyed by the compilers of both these biblical 'versions' to make sure no one ever found and read them, as they were quite contradictory to those that were used in their creation of this book that to be the credo of the government's church.
- 8. These hundreds of written articles were categorized into 3 piles:
- A.) those that contained subject matter pertinent to creating a new religion with the specific goal of influencing and ultimately controlling the masses.
- B.) those that depicted satanic worship - complete with magic spells and incantations.
- C.) those that conflicted with the first two themes - and were ultimately destroyed by the council chosen to decide , create, assemble only those that portrayed the tenets (principle beliefs) that they wanted to promote.
- 9. Nothing was actually written by Jesus himself.
- 10. All "quotes" and stories by the individual authors depicted their own personal agenda and only recurring themes were used and condensed into one palatable version to best fit their intended need.
- 11. All the writings used, were the personal, and sometimes unreasonable, judgements that promoted or substantiated the idea or theme of the religion to deitize (elevate to level of a god) the images of Christ as a symbolic martyr.
- 12. Jesus Christ may, or may not, have died on the cross. His body was taken down by family members and reportedly entombed, never to be seen again. I would submit here that his body, alive or dead, was removed from that tomb for safety and for "dramatic license" to give the 'illusion' of a resurrection from the dead. There were written accounts of Christ "appearing" to disciples months after his "demise'. Those accounts were not included in the original text for fear they might imply that he actually did not die on the cross as depicted. We will never know for sure, one way or the other.
- 13. How much of reality, fantasy or myth was used to create the illusion of the verification of a holy scripture being used to base a new religion on? We will never know.
- 14. Blind faith is certainly a 'leap' from reality.
And here we are today with a powerful Papacy headed by one supreme leader that people elevate to the level of god. Is the harshness of reality so painful to face, that we have this need to cling to a mythical being that chooses to allow all this evil to permeate our society, and justify our acceptance of its continuity by simply saying: "it is God's will"?. And promising their followers that their "rewards" will come after death.
Is it not sheer lunacy to persecute people, and create laws based on the mythical fantasy world created more than 2000 years ago?
Let us hope that when this civilization destroys itself over these foolish fantasies and a new one emerges from the ashes, that the only writings found, that will be the basis for the development of a whole new society, is not the stories about Harry Potter or The lord of the rings.
I would sooner see our current society come to its senses and progress into a future of awe and wonder over explorations of space and time with KNOWLEDGE being the ultimate quest of mankind instead of the almighty dollar.
I guess i am also prone to living in a fantasy after all.

Your fantasy trip reminds me of the old "Star Trek" episode where an entire society was based on their bible: a history of Gangsters from the United States. Everything in their life revolved around the Book. Of course, what you hint on is true, people use the Bible to justify everything. Any fool who reads the Bible should be able to see that very few Christians have any idea what the Bible really says. They argue about interpretations and meanings by trying to "fit" the Bible into their own view of how things should be. The human will to be right, to be powerful, and to be controlling overrides any hope that they can understand the simplicity of the Bible.
What was Satan's downfall? He wanted to be in control and make the decisions about what was right and wrong. Did he not tell Eve that she wouldn't die? She ate the fruit and realized that it was good; she didn't die. Or did she? She died a spiritual death, which is what happens to every person who thinks he or she knows more than God by trying to manipulate their world for their benefit instead of truly considering that our mission here is to help others, not help ourselves. We are to give not take. Who knew?

How wonderfully refreshing and a pleasure to read.
It pains me as children are murdered and I hear people say the child is with god. We have some serious problems in this culture and we will not address them. What's wrong with us? And why is there this 'untouchable and hands-off' rant (filled with hate) spewed when religion is involved - no matter the horrors.
As a descendant of people brutalized here by chattel slavery - the religious teaching was - your reward is in heaven. Huh? This teaching persists. Just wait. And wait and wait...
Opiate of the masses - indeed!
