Independent States - Individual Laws? (GOP Plan=Divide and Conquer)

Individual States - Individual Laws
ARE YOU IN FAVOR OF INDIVIDUAL STATES HAVING THE CAPACITY TO LEGISLATE THEIR OWN LAWS?
See results without votingINDEPENDENT STATE LAWS?
Are independent state laws really feasible? Reasonable? Suitable? Practical? Rational? Logical?
Let's explore the pros and cons of each state having independent laws for:
- marriage equality?
- religious laws?
- teaching 'religion' in schools?
- teaching sex education in schools?
- intelligent design versus science?
- mandating morality laws?
- banning gay rights?
- for discrimination of any kind?
- gun laws?
- against illegal aliens? (non extra terrestrial of course)
- banning minimum wages?
- stalking laws?
- redefining rape?
- banning abortion?
- devaluing women's rights?
Just who does the GOP really represent? They advocate individual state independence from the Federal Government laws. Why?
The Federal Government was set up to make sure there was equality = equal rights for all American citizens alike, without discrimination: the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. These are NOT issues to be decided by the majority. Equal rights do not mean only for the pious majority.
SHOULD WE BE "VOTING" ON EQUAL RIGHTS? REALLY?
The current trend seems to be reversing itself toward independent "equal rights" as defined by the majority of the individual states. ?
What in hell are they thinking?
It is a gigantic ploy by those who want our Federal Government to topple. The results would be nothing short of anarchy. {a state of lawlessness, or political disorder, due to the absence of governmental authority. A utopian society of individuals who enjoy complete freedom without government. Absence or denial of any authority or established order}-(Websters dictionary)
THIS BASIC PREMISE? --- DIVIDE AND CONQUER !!!
We are witnessing the destructiveness of such a movement around us today. Individual states attacking their own citizens with ludicrous laws. {ludicrous: amusing or laughable through obvious absurdity, incongruity, exaggeration or eccentricity; meriting derisive laughter or scorn as absurdly inept, false or just plain foolish} (Websters Dictionary)
Just as we see currently being done in such states as Wisconsin, Florida, Maine, So. Carolina, Alabama, Arizona and California - just to name a few of the most visibly vile.
This kind of tactic would (and does) create more havoc than good common sense would dictate, or permit. What we best need today is confirmation of our solidarity, equality, citizenry, and consistency with unity of purpose, interests, objectives and standards.
Lets look at a few examples of individual state laws wreaking havoc on the total American citizenry; causing the affliction of vengeance or punishment; giving free play or course to malevolent feelings and bringing wide and general destruction, confusion and disorder - not only to those states named above, but to all of our "united" ? states of America.
- Illegal alien status chaos - stereotyping, division, harassment, discrimination....
- attacks on women's rights - eliminating choices, loss of personal freedoms, making 'moral decisions by legislators.....
- attempting to control and/or mandate morality - denying basic rights based on 'moral' grounds, denying same sex marriages, increasing discriminatory laws against the gay community, Muslims, and other non-christian people.....
- destroying unions - that provide for safe work environments, equal work / equal pay, fair wages, non work place discrimination.....
- promoting inane and idiotic religious laws that - promote hatred, intolerance, bigotry, and influence our politics to discriminate against non religious citizens.....
- marriage equality fiasco - denying basic equality to minorities based on religious ideology and causing social unrest and divisiveness.....
- minority rights - promoting discrimination laws against women, gays, Muslims and increasing the mistrust, intolerance, bigotry and hatred.....
This attempt to divide our great nation is way too disruptive and destructive to our democratic way of life. By the use of "democracy" as a way of life does not particularly reflect a preference toward the democratic party versus the republican party. It is instead referencing a way of life that depicts a government for the people, and by the people; Not pro business, pro wealthy, pro religion, pro conservative values of a few; but equality for all people alike. A government in which the supreme power is vested in the people, and exercised by them directly, or indirectly, through a system of representation, that is 'honestly' elected and without hereditary, or arbitrary class distinctions, or privileges.
Such a simple process and yet so corrupted by greed and avarice for the excessiveness, or insatiable desires for wealth, gain, and power over others by a small percentage of the population.
How this cupidity (inordinate desire for wealth, and lust for power) has come to permeate our society, unfettered by blindness, or apathy, is beyond my comprehension.
It has enamored our passivity with the false promises that honest and hard work can give us all and equal chance, or opportunity, to attain wealth and the coveted "American Dream".
This mendacious promise, was willfully perpetrated by the liars, thieves, and deceptive sociopathic personalities who are the true beneficiaries of all that promised wealth and abundance. Their false and empty philosophy has totally permeated our unsuspecting society with such guile and deception that they have invaded an entire political party ideology that now represents only themselves; with their integrated assertions, theories, and aims that constitute a very narrow sociopolitical program to only benefit themselves.
If corporate mentality totally takes over this once genuine democratic principled government, we are all doomed to a life of austerity as we have not seen the likes of before. {austerity: stern and cold in appearance, somber, grave, morally strict, giving little or no hope for pleasure, freedom or equality. An ascetic way of life that practices strict self denial, as a measure of personal and spiritual discipline} (Websters dictionary) - as is built into any theocratic government.
Do we (those of us who cherish freedom and equality) really want our government transformed into a practicing religious entity with the power to mandate morals and pass laws that we see in 3rd world countries where "blasphemy" or "irreverence" is cause for imprisonment or being put to death?
Have we learned nothing from the past OR the current situation going on all around us on this planet???

So, let's take that poll again - Are you still in favor of individual states having the capacity to legislate their own laws?

In the United States, the right of states to make their own laws, as long as they do not violate the Constitution, is set in the Tenth Amendment.
I thought it would be good for the states to legislate their own rights, how utterly wrong i was. I learn so much from your hubs..Thank you..Keep writing..
d.william - The sad part on immigration is this. Farmers need workers to harvest their crops, people from Mexico are desperate for work, seems like a guest worker program would solve the problems for both. Yet to my knowledge, no effort is being put into a guest worker program at all. It would seem to me that our government working jointly with the Mexican government could quickly come up with a program that would serve this need, and reduce the risk for those now entering illegally.
My heart goes out to those who are forced to risk, and often lose, their lives just trying to get here to earn some money. Not to steal money, to earn money. Most of these are wonderful hard working people and they deserve better. Most would actually prefer to earn some money and then return to their homes in Mexico. Again I ask, how hard could it be to put a guest worker program that works into operation?
d.william - L.O.L. not a bad idea putting the girl scouts in Washington. I believe they could do a better job than what we have now. Especially if they lived by their Girl Scout Oath. Most of our current politicians would need extensive training to even understand what was in this oath.
d.william great article.
The American Dream is as George Carlin says, you have to be asleep to believe it.
I don't have problems with state legislating their own law, as long as they do not conflict with Federal law, the Constitution, Bill of Rights... People in California have different concerns then those in North Dakota, there are regional differences and needs that need to be addressed and state lawmakers are to bring a more individualized responsive government to the population it serves. But as the state is always subordinate to the federal, laws cannot be enacted in violation of federal law. That is where the line is drawn and where rights cannot be denied any group merely because the majority in an area votes in such a way.
So, I am for states being able to legislate, but the reach and effect of their legislation can only go so far.
Wow, this hub is far above my pay grade, when it comes to word usage, and terminology, but I still managed to work my way through it all.
I think that politics has a divisional purpose and that's the only reason for it to be in existence to me. Separation, has always done the trick when it comes to people winning, or losing any battles. So no matter which way you put it, there's going to be those at the receiving end, and those at the losing.
I have no knowledge when it comes to politics, so this is all that I see in it all, and I'm simply a realist, who looks for, the not so obvious things in something, such as a scientist who looks to prove only the simplest findings, and there's plenty people out here who think like I do.
Your hub is far beyond my scope, and I commend you on your research, however it may play out for you. I just wish something could be done about the false leadership issues we seem to have, no one can fix the system, and that's the truth, it wasn't designed to be repaired, maybe if the leaders told us all the truth than we could all sleep better .
It's actually functioning today as originally set out and planned to be, a system of numbers and scales, plain and simple "Good old fashion Monopoly". Political rhetoric is rhetoric. Voted up for the amazing effort here.
I think nothing will be solved or corrected, in our lifetime until everyone wakes up out of their dormant sleep state we've all been put in centuries ago, till than things will be as the guardians of the corrupted empires choose it to be.

d.william, Wow, great hub as usual. This one leaves me with some mixed feelings. I can see both the positive and negative sides of this issue. The reason I say this is our states do differ if for no other reason than location. There are also religious, economic, and various other situations that make states different. You stated Arizona is a vile place because of our attempt to actually do something about illegal immigration because the Feds are doing nothing. As we are a border state, I would have to believe the problems with illegal immigration affect us far more than say Iowa, Tennessee, and so forth. In this case we are concerned about a serious problem that have limited impact on other states. I'm sure other states have problems or issues that we are unaware of here in Arizona, but are major concerns for them. Some laws would solve major problems for certain states, but these same laws would have little or no meaning or impact in all states.
I believe in that case individual states should have some leeway in solving their own problems as long as they don't attempt to replace Federal Laws that are already in effect.
