Under the Eye of God

Are People Born Gay?

Read this hub, then watch the videos and see what your damned religion has done. Then hang your heads in shame. You will be answering for this hatred when you face your god.

This is one of the stupidest questions i have ever heard. Again, people, just try to allow a little logic to enter your brains. I just read a few articles that state quotes from the bible as fact. I just have to wonder if these people also believe in Santa Clause, Alice in Wonderland, or perhaps Mickey Mouse? After all, mickey is seen walking through the crowds at Disney world every day. Santa comes once a year with presents and gifts. And Jesus walked on water.

Lets try to apply a little logic to this ignorant question. We can start by setting up a graph. Just Draw a straight line across a piece of paper. On one end of the line write (or print) the word FEMALE. On the other end of the line write (or print) the word MALE. (see illustration below)

In the very center of that line write (or print) the word HERMAPHRODITE. For those of you who do not know what this word means Websters dictionary defines it as follows; 1. an animal or plant (and yes, this includes humans) having both male and female reproductive organs. 2. something that is a combination of diverse elements. 3. homosexual. Look it up on the Internet, you might even get to see a picture or two.

Now, assuming that Webster is not Satan, and his dictionary is not banned by your religion, one would have to conclude that this is a true birth status statement.

Now draw little lines up and down between the far left, the far right and the middle, and conclude that if there are such things as Male, Female, Hermaphrodite, that there also has to be variations of each some where in between. These are NOT learned attributes. They are mother nature at her worst (or best). Frankly if we were all born bisexual in the first place this would never have been an issue. The middle lines between each end and the middle consider that one to be Bisexual.

                   Bisexual.                                                    Bisexual

Male_____l_____l_____l_____Hermaphrodite_____l_____l_____l_____Female

So, logic dictates that we stop this rhetoric and accept the fact that Gay folks are indeed born that way. No amount of prayer, psychotherapy, surgery or other witchcraft is ever going to change that fact. No passages in any book can negate these facts, also concluding that one or the other is in error. I would highly suggest that you look at the scriptures as the one being in error. You cannot discount all the other things that are ignored and just hone in on one that most likely was misinterpreted in the first place, from the original text.

Exactly right d.william another great hub its true we are born gay and there is no choice in the matter its genetics that makes us what we are.

We did not wake up one morning and decide to be gay today did we, it really makes me laugh when people ask those questions but as along as you explain to them the truth it helps them to understand it better.

Unfortunately, even with scientific explanations, there will still be the stupidly uninformed that would rather believe in the idiocy of their religious leaders that the truth. Good writing!

What do you say about alcoholism? The government gives

financial help to those who claim to be alcoholics. Do you believe that this is a "genetic" disorder?

d.william profile image

d.william Hub Author 15 months ago

http://hubpages.com/profile/Edgarpoet

Thanks for reading and commenting. My answer to your question is: absolutely not. Alcoholism is an addiction, not a genetic disorder. Unless of course addictions are genetically passed down. Which again, i do not believe they are. Perhaps, there is some kind of pre-disposition to addiction in a person's general makeup, but any addiction is either physically induced by repetitive use, or by repetitive use due to a mental need that has not been addressed.

thank you so much for reading and commenting. It truly IS amazing that people are still so narrow minded and hateful in this 'modern' society. The backwardness of religion and the fact that our government is run by a bunch of stale old farts who think they have the right to mandate their own kind of moral judgements on people needs a complete overhauling. Perhaps the next generation will be a little more enlightened, or a little more educated.

d. william-

Great article and very factual! However, it would be an opinion to say that religion is useless or could never be of use to anyone, despite the fact that it is so backwards today. That is why there is a separation between church and state. As long as the government doesn't tell you what to do religious-wise, then it's OK. That's one thing not to argue with anyone anyway... religion and politics!

Thank you for reading and your comments. I hope this has shed a little light on the realities of people being born gay, as opposed to being 'made' that way by circumstances.

I love your avatar-too cool! Thanks for following me, which led to me checking your hubs out. I like this hub, short, to the point and simply stated. My nephew is gay and we 'knew' it before he actually came out. Some people don't understand. There is a lot of judgement around gender and sexuality issues. In my rural town we have had discussions of the importance of keeping his business to himself due to harassment.

Thank you so much for reading and your comments. It is truly a sad commentary on the intelligence of the american society that in this day and age, we still have to hide who we are, for fear of physical AND physcological harm and isolation, and being victims of hate mongerers. Will people EVER wake up and realize this is NOT a choice, and NOT against God's teachings. The bible has got to be revised to reflect the truth as it IS, not the truth of how some MEN "think" it should be.

Umm..... The Gay liberation movement makes a lot of people who "discover" they are gay at some point.

However I have read of and know people have lived as gay and then their orientation changed. Often raising a family in the process.

If someone is gay and happy as gay then they should not be persecuted.

But sexual orientation CAN be changed IF the person involved sincerely wants it to change. Perhaps "Surrendering to Jesus" is their way to do it, perhaps abandoning their religion is the only way they can do it.

How can someone end wrongly convinced they are gay? Well if they go to a single sex school and do not get opportunities to meet the opposite sex it can happen.

So I would say

(1) Some people may be born gay. Fetal Testosterone levels may effect this in men and possibly women. For them changing may be hard if not impossible.

(2) Some people may be in an environment where they accept the label "gay" and live the lifestyle

(3) I think Sexual Orientation is much more fluid than people realise

(4) But I Am TOTALLY opposed to the homophobic rants of certain religious extremists, regardless if the religion. I suspect many of these people are in denial about conflicts in their own sexuality.

(5) For the record I am a straight male and a father. Unfortunately I have to say this because some people assume that if you are not homophobic you are homosexual.

http://hubpages.com/profile/AlexK2009. Thanks for reading and commenting. You have some valid points, but you cannot disregard my graph above.

I have been in the medical field all my life, and have witnessed people with both fully functioning sexual organs, women with many male attributes, and men with many female attributes. These are not things that are learned, caught like you would catch a cold, or chosen as a lifestyle.

The obviously false teachings from a book does not override reality, as much as people would like to believe so. Those individuals that have 'chosen' to change from homo to hetero are not to be exalted as if some godly act 'cured' them. If this transition was so easy for some, it undoubetedly co-incides with the place they fit on the scale between male and female. There is no magic, no miracle, no divine intervention, or any such nonsense to explain this away. No one is wrongly convinced they are gay either. You either are, or you are not. Either way, it should be of no concern to others.

You are more enlightened than most of those [middle of the road religious bigots] are, but you still have a problem with self image. And i am not saying this to be insulting toward you, it is just a psychological fact. When a person feels the need to say those words: "I am straight", it signifies discomfort, and a need for acceptance. If one is secure enough with himself, or herself, they will never have a need to explain anything to anyone. Or even justify their beliefs that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity, and enjoy the same equal rights as everyone else, even though they may be "different" from the average. I try not to use the word 'normal' as this is a relative term that signifies judgemental attitudes by one person to another.

I do appreciate you comments and if all people were only half as tolerant as you, we would not be having such a debate over genetics in this world. Religion, and the professed 'holy book' have been the deepest rooted problem for the people since time began. It was borne in evilness, and spews lies and hatred, and has the audacity to say it is in the name of God?

Such hypocrites, i have never seen amongst the sane.

ScRuTTy: It would be better to say that Gays are a minority but being Gay is neither deviant, abnormal nor uncommon. Otherwise there is the implication that being straight is not normal.

ScRuTTy Level 1 Commenter 13 months ago

Alex2009:Your totally right! the word normal should not be used to explain this, but what I wanted to say was that I want people around me to not see Gays as abnormal and that it should not be interpreted that way. And if people around me start accepting gay people as "normal" then its better than them not caring at all, I think this is a step forward. :)

Thank you both for reading and your comments. And you are both correct in your statements to an extent. Seeing homosexuality as normal certainly does not mean that being heterosexual is abnormal. Both are a normal part of nature and should be treated the same. Neither can be held as abnormal if this is nature's creation. It will take time before society can accept that there are things in our lives that we have no control over, but the main thing to achieve first is acceptance of what God creates as God's creation; and that the Creator makes no mistakes. And it certainly is a sin against God, and humanity to pass judgement on others for any reason.

Being gay is wrong. I didn't say it God did. My belief in that, in no way means that I have a hatred, or disdain or dislike for anyone, gay or strait. I owned a ballroom dance studio and hired and worked with gay folks for years. I love them as I love others. We're all just people. We need to get over it. Pray for yourself and everyone else. We need it!

It is nice to know you have that direct line to God as i assume that this is the ONLY way you could know what god thinks.

God 'said' no such thing. You are letting your uneducated biased religious beliefs discolor your sense of reality. The bible is nothing more than a book of words written by a bunch of politicians 300-400 years A.D. Keep you beliefs, if you will, but judgement is not yours, or any man's, to make.

A person borns blonde, a person borns black, a person borns in Africa, a person borns in Europe, a person borns poor, a person borns rich, a person borns male, a person borns homosexual, a person borns heterosexual. What is the problem? A person is born. The diversity is a strength. Who is afraid of diversity probably is afraid of something inside of him/her.

Thank you for have gave me the opportunity to share this thought and for this important page, on an important argument.

Thanks for you comments. And you hit the nail right on the head with your comment: WHO IS AFRAID OF DIVERSITY PROBABLY IS AFRAID OF SOMETHING INSIDE OF HIM/HER. This is the very basic reason why people "hate" others that are different from themselves.

ruffridyer Level 4 Commenter 11 months ago

I am sorry but I still believe gays are made not born. Many gay men had older brothers who experimeted with them,[played doctor], when they were young. I believe learning to enjoy sex with another of your sex is a learned response. Basically gay men never get past the [Playing doctor} stage of their development.

As for fear or hatred, I consider homosexaulity to be a sin but I don't hate or fear gays.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. You are certainly entitled to you own opinions. Although they are based on false teachings, they are respected as long as they are not used to harm or hurt another individual. One day the evidence of genetic differences will be made public, but i expect that die hard christians will never belief anything they are told not to. Sad, that so many have been brainwashed into believing the nonsense of sin versus a natural process of evolution. Sure makes for a lot of hatred and sadness in this world. God does not make mistakes, and homosexuals are born, not created as you would have others believe. If the incidence of homosexuality were not so prevalent you might have a valid argument, but in light of the fact it is part of every culture, every country, every family, every society (even in the animal kingdom) your arguments are just not valid in the logical world of reality.

Stump Parrish profile image

ruff, I agree you are entitled to your opinions. I was just wondering what you base them on? Did you arraive at you opinion by examining all the evedience available or did you stick to one source for all your information. I am assuming that since this deals with science and medicine, you rely on reports from doctors and scientists for your opinion, right? If this is not the case then you must be a homosexual. I say this as I feel that only a homosexual would have the available data to argue with the countless doctors and scientists who have studied homosexuality. It's more likely that you have never knowingly met a homosexual. It's more likely that you have been taught to disagree with scientific studies by that bastian of knowledge and fact, your church. I could be wrong and if so it will only be the 5th time today. Have you ever been wrong about anything in your life? I meant anything other than the position you have been instructed to defend in this debate.

Thank you for reading and commenting. We need to realize that "sins" are only in the minds of man. There are universal considerations for man to make laws about, like murder, rape, abuse, and anything else that one person can do another that is harmful and hurtful, but 'sins' as defined by any religion, are only what has been judged to be so by the writer of those 'sins' against the church. And to say, that 'God said those things' is a 'sin' against the Creator. No-one on this earth, whether current, past, or future, can EVER know what God intended to be sinful, or not. Other than what is taught by their own particular religion, who have their own agendas. (Taking your money, and placing guilt trips on their members to hold that control over them). And arguing that any of the "holy books" are from god's mouth to your ears is about as ludicrous as things can be. Talk about living in a fantasy world!

I had a first grade boy who loved to use his hoodie as his "long hair", wanted to always be the mother when he played house with the other children, used markers to paint his nails and as lipstick, insisted on walking in the girls line and loved to pretend he was female........I could go on and on and on but the point is-this six year old boy didn't make the choice to behave the way he did-he was just being who he was born to be. I don't know if he will be gay or transgendered when he grows up, I just know that I love him and he taught me a lesson that has effected the way I look at the issue of nature or nuture.

It broke my heart to hear some of the "adults" in the school tsk, tsk, tsk when they saw him. I even had one person tell me that it was my job to tell him that his behavior was wrong and he needed to act like a boy. My response to her (before reporting her to the principal) was that it was my job to educate him, it was God's job to make him who he was and God made him exactly the way He wanted him to be.

Sure, people can choose to act out their sexuality later in life, but it was there (and theirs) from day one. I'm sure of it. I've read about ex-gay ministries and it scares me to think of the psychic damage done to people who would be perfectly happy if they just accepted themselves.

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. If only more people had your attitude, there would be less hatred and violence being spread on this planet. Overcoming the religious ignorance is the first step to the problem. Not too likely to see any changes there in our life time. Pushing bigotry and promoting hatred and violence seems to be working well for the religious leaders and their blind followers. Just a huge case of dumb and dumber.

Who in the world would choose to be gay when they are hated so violently. I know that a person who is gay is born that way. It was in my family, i say, " Was " because he died. Why can't people see that? A closed mind is tragic. The videos touched me, such hate. Hate is a taught trait, if adult parents would teach their crildren to love, and if someone is different than them, it's ok. Thank you. Your Hub should enlighten...

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I could not agree with you more. The hatred for anything (anyone) that is different stems mostly from religious teachings of intolerance and bigotry based on a lie perpetrated by those who would control others, simply for the sake of control and for profit. I always have to laugh when i hear people say - "God said it, i didn't", or "it's a sin because it says so in the bible", or "it's not natural". People (some of them) are so stupidly narrow minded.

As a homosexual man, thank you everyone who has contributed to this Hub. You have put into words the main arguments so well, better than I could have stated.

I am not effeminate, and do not try to be. Feminine clothes and the female form do not give me any sexual urge at all. This does not mean I have disrespect for females, far from it. It even allows me to address women for their qualities other than sexual. I believe many heterosexual men find that difficult!

The self-serving rants of those bigot who get up on a dais and shout anti-gay rubbish I find abominable. Yet we cannot prevent them, only hope they will see their faults and want to change.

In my opinion there are much more important things to work for in this world, like honesty in business; honesty in politics; honesty in religion; honesty within ONE'S SELF.

Welcome to my hubpages. Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment. It is time that we all (as intelligent adults) stop the attacks on any minority by the wacky religious zealots who would kill all who oppose them, as is their history. I really do not care if they want to spend their entire lives living in the past and praying to the air, but i do care about them sticking their dam noses in everyone else's business. And if the GOP gains any more power in this country they will be building many more prisons to house the gay population, and the women who defy their new rules against them as well.
